"Inner Urge, which feature Henderson as sole horn, is dark and intense music. The title-tune, commemorating Henderson's experiences of trying to make a living in New York, is a blistering effort at a medium tempo, and it's interesting to compare Tyner and Jones as they are with Henderson rather than with Coltrane. While the atmosphere is not as teeth-grittingly intense, it's scarcely less visceral music. Even the sunny reading of ' Night and Day' musters a terrific urgency via Jones' continuously glittering cymbals."
